Objective of the Programme: The programme aimed to promote democratic values among students through literary expression and to encourage active participation, creativity, and social responsibility through literature.
Programme Details: : The programme commenced with a formal welcome address by Dr. Ashalatha P., Program Coordinator and Head of the Department of Political Science. The joint inauguration of Vidyarthivani, the campus wall magazine, and the celebration of the International Day of Democracy marked the beginning of the event.
Dr. Ravishankar Rao, in his inaugural address, highlighted the importance of literature in strengthening democracy. He emphasized that literature should not remain merely an artistic pursuit but must function as a powerful medium for social transformation. He explained how various literary forms such as stories, poetry, essays, and vachana literature can awaken democratic consciousness among young communities. He also appreciated the students’ creativity and described Vidyarthivani as a model platform for expressive student engagement.
Prof. Ramesh Bhat, College Administrative Director, stressed that youth who are aware of their social responsibilities are the true custodians of democracy. Presiding over the programme, Prof. Harish Acharya, Principal of the college, appreciated the students for their creativity and understanding of democratic values.
During the programme, Ms. Ishika, a second-year B.A. student, was felicitated in recognition of her valuable contributions.
Participants: The programme was attended by Student Welfare Officer Dr. Sowmya Praveen, Librarian Dr. Sujatha, faculty members Daya Suvarna, Dr. Vijayalakshmi, Dr. Karthik, Dr. Ganesh Acharya, and Dr. Santosh, along with Vidyarthivani editorial team members Akshata, Ramitha, and Nataraj Joshi. Student representatives Mahesh and Prapti were also present.
Vote of Thanks: A formal welcome was extended by Dr. Sudha U. from the Department of Political Science. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Jyoti Kamath from the Hindi Department.
Anchoring: The editorial segment of the programme was hosted by Tejaswini, and the formal proceedings were compered by Ms. Sharmitha, Lecturer in English.
Outcome of the Programme: The programme successfully sensitized students to the role of literature in strengthening democratic values and encouraged creative expression, social awareness, and active student participation.
