PAN India program- ‘Clean coast, Safe sea’

Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India; Vigyan Prasar, New Delhi; Karnataka Science and Technology Academy, Bangalore; Pilikula Regional Science Centre, Mangaluru; Internal Quality Assurance Cell and PG Department of Chemistry GDC, Surathkal; NSS, GDPUC, Surathkal  have jointly organized, ‘Clean coast, Safe sea’-campaign followed by a beach cleaning program. It is a 75 days citizen led campaign for improving the ocean health through collective action. The campaign started on July 3rd, 2022.

Our college is delighted over the fact that in this PAN India program, our college was chosen among the 10 colleges.  In this direction, we have invited the speaker chosen by you i.e. Dr Lakshmipathi MT, Professor, Department of Aquatic Management, College of Fisheries, Mangaluru. He told that environment is very crucial to us. He explained about Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampanna Yojana. Biological division of ecosystem; formation of coral reefs, sea grass beds, seaweeds, turtle nesting grounds etc were presented through PowerPoint. It is our collective responsibility to protect marine resources and beaches.

Compering was done by Ms Pricita, 2nd MSc. MSc Chemistry and GDPUC NSS students totally making 140 participated in the same. Principal GDC, Prof. Krishnamoorthy was the president. Program was followed by snacks and juice. There was a beach cleaning session at Iddya Surathkal. Garbage was handed over to Municipality vehicle.
