The library plays a vital role in the academic development of an educational institution by providing access to knowledge, information resources, and learning support. To help newly admitted students make effective use of the library, Govinda Dasa College organized a Library Orientation Programme for all first-year undergraduate students during the academic year 2026–27.
The programme was designed to familiarize students with the library’s collections, facilities, services, rules, and digital resources. It also aimed to develop students’ information-seeking skills and encourage regular use of the library for academic and personal growth.
The orientation programme was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, students attended an interactive session supported by a PowerPoint presentation, where they were introduced to the library’s resources, services, membership procedures, circulation system, OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), and digital facilities.
In the second phase, students participated in a guided library tour. They were taken through the various sections of the library, including the reference section, circulation counter, periodicals section, digital resources area, and stack room. Students were also given practical training on using the OPAC to search for books and locate them efficiently.
The orientation programme was conducted for all first-year students of B.C.A., B.Sc., B.Com., B.A and B.B.A. The programme helped students gain confidence in using library resources effectively and encouraged them to develop regular reading and research habits from the beginning of their academic journey.
