A demonstration of the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trial (VVPAT) was held at Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal on 16th Monday 2018. The VVPATs with electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be used in all the Constituencies in Dakshina Kannada District during the Assembly Elections. Speaking to faculty members and administrative staffs and students, Sri Ratnakar, Sector Officer of Krishnapura and Katipalla and Mr. Mohammed Ashraf, Sector Officer of Surathkal said that there will be a ballot unit, a control unit and a VVPAT unit in every polling station this time. Hence there will not be any doubt about the correctness of the voting process.
With VVPAT, voters will know for whom they had voted. They can see the paper trail in the VVPAT unit for seven seconds. During the counting of votes, the paper trails of one station will be randomly selected for checking. In the case of close contest, the VVPATs could also be checked, the officials informed at GDC.
Dr. Muralidhar Rao, Principal of the College, Prof Krishnamurthi, Vice Principal of the College, Dr. Mayya, Director of the PG Centre and other faculty members and non-teaching members of the college and students were present at this demonstration.
