Report on Orientation Programme for First Year B.Com Students

The Department of Commerce , Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal, organized an Orientation Programme for the First Year B.Com students to familiarize the newly admitted students with the institution, its academic environment, and the opportunities available for their holistic development.

The programme was presided over by Prof. Hareesh Acharya P, Principal of Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal. The dignitaries present on the dais included Dr. Sowmya Praveen, Student Welfare Officer and Head of the Department of Commerce and Business Administration; Mr. Dhanyakumar Venkannavar, IQAC Coordinator; Dr. Bhagyalaxmi M., Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce and Business Administration; and Ms. Apeksha Bhandary, Lecturer, Department of Commerce and Business Administration.

In his presidential address, Prof. Hareesh Acharya P warmly welcomed the newly admitted students and motivated them to make the best use of the opportunities provided by the institution. He encouraged the students to remain disciplined, dedicated, and committed to academic excellence while actively participating in co-curricular and extracurricular activities to achieve holistic development.

During the orientation session, the students were introduced to the vision and mission of the college, academic regulations, departmental activities, faculty members, student support services, scholarships, various clubs and associations, student achievements, campus facilities, examination procedures, and the institutional code of conduct. The session provided comprehensive guidance to help the students adapt confidently to the college environment and understand the expectations of higher education.

As part of the programme, Ms. Shafa, ACCA Faculty from My Logic, delivered an informative session highlighting the significance of pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree along with the ACCA qualification. She explained the scope of ACCA, career opportunities in finance and accounting, and the advantages of integrating professional certification with undergraduate studies, inspiring students to explore global career prospects.

The programme concluded with an interactive session where students clarified their queries regarding academics, campus life, and professional opportunities. The orientation programme proved to be highly informative and beneficial, providing the students with a clear understanding of the academic framework, institutional values, and career pathways, thereby enabling them to embark on their undergraduate journey with confidence and enthusiasm.
