A Drug Awareness Programme was organized on 29th September 2025 at Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal, in collaboration with Lions International District, Lions Club Surathkal, and Leo Club Surathkal, in association with the NSS Units of the college. The event aimed to educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to promote a healthy, addiction-free lifestyle among youth.
Prof. Ramesh Bhat S.G., Administrative Director of the college, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of awareness in preventing drug addiction among students and the community at large.
Sri. Pramod Kumar P., Police Inspector, Surathkal Police Station, addressed the students and spoke about the legal consequences and societal impact of drug abuse.
The resource person for the session was Dr. Aishwarya Bhat P., Psychiatrist and Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Srinivas Medical College, Mukka. She delivered an insightful presentation on the psychological and physical effects of substance abuse, the underlying causes, and the role of youth in curbing the menace.
The event was presided over by Prof. Harish Acharya, Principal of Govinda Dasa College, who in his presidential address emphasized the need for continuous awareness efforts and encouraged students to become ambassadors of a drug-free society.
Mrs. Shakuntala Shetty, President of Lions Club Surathkal, welcomed the gathering and appreciated the collaborative effort between the college and the clubs. The programme saw enthusiastic participation from NSS volunteers, Leo Club members, and students.
Mrs. Akshatha V and Dr. Bhagyalaxmi M., NSS Programme Officers, Dr. Sowmya Praveen K., Student Welfare Officer, Dr. Sujatha, Librarian, and members of the Lions Club and Leo Club Surathkal were also present at the event.
The programme successfully raised awareness and inspired students to take a firm stand against drug use, in line with the NSS motto — “Not Me, But You.”
