The Govinda Dasa Kabaddi League (GKL) – Season 3 was held at Govinda Dasa College on 4th October 2026 with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit.
Inaugurating the tournament, Sri Subrahmanya T., Member of Hindu Vidyadayini Sangha, emphasized the importance of sports in the overall development of students. He said that sports contribute significantly to both the physical and mental development of students and encouraged them to actively participate in sports activities alongside academics.
The Chief Guest, Smt. Geetanjali Suvarna, former Zilla Panchayat member, said that sports teach important values such as discipline, self-control and restraint. Addressing the students, she said, “You are the future leaders of a great India. Develop good habits and values that will guide you throughout your life.”
Prof. Ramesh Bhat S.G., Administrative Director of the College, urged the participants to play with true sportsmanship and accept both victory and defeat positively. He emphasized that maintaining a healthy sporting spirit is as important as winning.
Prof. Harisha Acharya, Principal, who presided over the programme, said that sporting activities provide an excellent platform for identifying and nurturing true talent among students.
The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from four teams of old students, led by Jith, Sandesh, Suhas and Shravan Malakath. After a series of exciting matches, Jith Malakath’s Shakti team emerged as the champions, while Shravan Malakath’s Trident team secured the runners-up position.
Individual awards were presented to outstanding performers:
- Best Defender: Krish
- Best Raider: Manjunath
- Best All-rounder: Manju
Dr. Prashanth M.D., Physical Director, and Dr. Sudha U., Student Welfare Officer, were present on the occasion.
The programme was anchored by Anjali.
The event provided an opportunity for former students to reconnect with the institution while promoting fitness, teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship among the participants.
