On the occasion of World AIDS Day, the NSS Units of Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal, in association with the IQAC, Red Ribbon Club, Consumer and Human Rights Unit, Mahila Vedike, and Youth Red Cross Unit, organized a Youth Awareness Workshop at the college on 6th December 2025. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about HIV/AIDS prevention, early diagnosis, and the importance of adopting healthy and responsible lifestyles.
The resource person, Ms. Akshatha Kamath, DSRC Counsellor, District Government Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru, expressed concern over the increasing number of HIV/AIDS cases among youth. She emphasized that awareness and education are the most effective tools for preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and encouraged students to make informed decisions and promote awareness within their communities.
Presiding over the programme, Prof. Hareesha Acharya P., Principal of Govinda Dasa College, stated that the youth are the backbone of the nation’s development and that when they become socially responsible and health-conscious, both society and the country’s progress are strengthened.
As a mark of respect, floral tributes were paid to Dr. Veenadhari in recognition of her outstanding contribution and long-standing efforts in creating awareness about HIV/AIDS at the national level.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Akshatha V., NSS Programme Officer, while Dr. Ashalatha, Coordinator of the Human Rights Unit, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Ramya, an NSS volunteer.
The event was attended by Dr. Bhagyalaxmi M., NSS Programme Officer, Daya Suvarna, Consumer Forum Coordinator, Poornima J. Gokhale, Youth Red Cross Unit Coordinator, faculty members, and a large number of NSS volunteers, who actively participated in the awareness programme.
