The Department of Computer Science was established in 1992, initially offering Computer Science as one of the optional subjects for B.Sc. students. In 1994, the college introduced Computer Applications as a vocational subject for the B.Com. programme. Subsequently, the Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) was introduced in 1995.
The Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) programme was introduced in 2007, marking an important milestone in the growth of the department. In 2026, the department further expanded its academic offerings with the introduction of BCA (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning). All the programmes offered by the department are affiliated to Mangalore University.
During the academic year 2026–2027, the department has a total student strength of approximately 186 students. The department is supported by seven qualified and experienced teaching faculty members who are committed to providing quality education and fostering technical skills among students.
The department has three well-equipped computer laboratories with 80 computers, along with air-conditioning and internet facilities. Students are provided with hands-on opportunities to work on computers, enabling them to gain practical knowledge and develop industry-relevant technical skills.
The department also has a strong focus on career development and placement opportunities. Nearly 60% of the students are recruited by various software companies through campus placement, while the remaining students pursue higher studies in various disciplines. This reflects the department’s commitment to preparing students for successful careers and further academic pursuits.
