The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Youth Red Cross (YRC) Unit, and NSS Unit of Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal, jointly organized an informative and practical Awareness Programme on Fire Safety, Health Safety and Disaster Management on September 26, 2026. The programme aimed to create awareness among students and equip them with essential knowledge and practical skills to respond effectively during emergencies and disasters.
The key attraction of the programme was an engaging training session conducted by Mr. Satyaraj, Fire & Safety Officer, Mangalore. Addressing the students, he highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness, timely response, and responsible action during emergency situations. He emphasized that remaining calm, thinking clearly, and demonstrating civic responsibility are crucial while dealing with critical situations.
A major highlight of the programme was the live demonstration of firefighting equipment. Students were given an opportunity to observe and operate different types of fire extinguishers under the guidance of the Fire & Safety Officer. The hands-on training provided students with valuable practical experience and increased their confidence in handling fire-related emergencies.
The programme also reflected the active involvement and leadership of the student volunteers. Ms. Princitha of III B.Com delivered the welcome address. Ms. Sakshi of II BCA served as the Master of Ceremonies and coordinated the programme smoothly. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Disha of II BCA, who expressed gratitude to the resource person, college authorities, faculty coordinators, and student participants.
The programme was presided over by the Vice Principal, Prof. Neelappa V. Dr. Sowmya Praveen K., YRC Wing Officer, and Mr. Santhosh Alva, NSS Unit Officer, were also present on the dais.
The awareness programme provided students with an enriching combination of expert guidance, practical training, and hands-on experience. It strengthened their awareness of safety procedures and encouraged them to act with confidence and responsibility during emergencies.
The programme concluded successfully, leaving the students better informed, safety-conscious, and prepared to contribute responsibly to the safety and well-being of the community.
